Defending champions Astana Arlans from Kazakhstan recorded an emphatic 5-0 victory over the Patriot Boxing Team of Russia in the World Series of Boxing (WSB) in Kokshetau.

Temirtas Zhussupov of the Arlans got his team off to a flying start in this Group C encounter on home soil at the Jaksy Arena thanks to his 3-0 victory against Boris Sidorov in the under 46 to 49 kilogram light flyweight category.

Such was the excellence of Zhussupov’s performance, not one round was awarded against him by any of the three judges.

Ilyas Suleimenov also recorded a 3-0 victory for the Arlans in the 56kg bantamweight category against Vasilii Vetkin.

London 2012 Olympian Suleimenov was awarded the first round by a 10:9 scoreline on all three of the judges’ cards.

Vetkin, however, recovered well to take the second round to make it an even contest.

Suleimenov, though, recovered well to take each of the next three rounds by scores of 10:9, giving him a 49:46 score overall on all three scorecards.

The 64kg light welterweight category saw Dilmurat Mizhitov secure another 3-0 victory for the Arlans, this time against Konstantin Bogomazov.

The fight was a fairly even contest in the first three rounds with the judges holding very mixed opinions on each.

Mizhitov, however, then produced a superb display to unanimously win the final two rounds, handing him the overall win.

Abilkhan Amankul secured a comfortable win for the Arlans in the middleweight 75kg category with two of the judges awarding him a 10:9 victory in all five rounds.

By far the closest match came in the final contest of the day - the 91kg heavyweight clash between Nurbol Altayev of the Arlans and Rovshan Yagubzade of the Patriots.

Yagubzade got off to a good start to the fight with all three judges awarding him the first round.

The judges were split on the next three rounds with very mixed scorecards.

The final round, however, was key as all three officials awarded Altayev a 10:9 victory.

Today's result means the Arlans have won both of their matches so far this season.

The Patriot Boxing Team will be looking to recover from this defeat in their opening tie of the campaign when they take on Indian Tigers on March 2.

The next WSB event is due see the Uzbek Tigers take on the Cuba Domadores on Tuesday (February 27).
