Morocco’s Zied Ait Ouagram was beaten by Algeria’s Akrem Boudjemline on the last day of action at the African Wrestling Championships at the Alfred Diete-Spif Civic Centre in Port Harcourt as senior finals in the Greco Roman and women's wrestling events took place.

Ait Ouagram had been hoping to secure his 10th African Wrestling Championship gold medal when he took to the mat in the final of the 77 kilogram Greco Roman category event.

He could only draw 5-5, however, before eventually losing to Boudjemline by VPO1, handing the title to the Algerian.

The bronze medals were won by Perefaghe Samuel Kiribein of host country Nigeria and Mohamed Ebah Mohamed Zahab Khalil of Egypt.

There was yet more disappointment for Morocco in the 67kg competition as Ayoub Hanine was thrashed 8-0 by Egypt's Mohamed Ibrahim Elsayed Ibrahi Elsayed in the main final.

Bronze medals were won by Nigeria’s Romeo Joseph and Algeria’s Ishak Ghaiou.

The 82kg event was a battle between two North African athletes with Egyptian Ahmed Hassan Aly Mahmoud Ahmed eventually emerging triumphant with a 4-2 win over Algerian Bachir Sid Azara.

The bronze medal was won by Khalid Sahli to make it an all-North African top three with a 5-0 win over Lawrence Anthony MacGregor.

The women’s events saw a plethora of home success as Nigerian athletes claimed several medals.

In the 50kg event, the lightest of the women’s categories, 2015 African Games gold medallist Miesinnei Mercy Genesis thrashed Algeria's Kheira Chaimaa Yahiaoui 10-0 to clinch the title.

Tunisia’s Sarra Hamdi saw off competition from Nahamie Sambou of Senegal to claim bronze with the match ending 6-3.

A Nigerian once again recorded a convincing victory to claim the gold medal in the 59kg event as Bisola Makanjuola came out on top against Eman Essam Guda of Egypt, again by a 10-0 scoreline.

The bronze medal match was a much closer affair, but it was eventually Safietou Goudiaby of Senegal who secured her spot on the podium thanks to a 2-1 win over Chaimaa Fouzia Aouissi of Algeria.

Blessing Oborududu, a two-time Olympian, made it three golds for Nigeria as she won the 68kg event thanks to a 14-3 victory over Senegal's Anta Sambou.

Cameroon’s Etane Ngoe Kerthre Emilienne was untroubled by Egypt’s Mona Reda Abdelkhalek Ahmed on her way to the bronze medal, coming out on top by a 5-0 scoreline.
