The Go Pyeongchang app, the official transport app for the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, has been released.

The app, available in Korean, English, Chinese and Japanese, is designed to give customised information to international visitors who are unaccustomed to navigating South Korean public transport.

Users will be able to compare the costs and travel times of different modes and routes of transport including the high-speed train, shuttle buses, express and intercity buses, subway, city bus, car sharing and taxis.

They will also be able to book and pay for their desired transportation method on the app, which is available on iOS and android.

It is hoped that the app will minimise the use of cars during the Games.

Pyeongchang 2018 director general for transport and traffic Kang Hee-up said: "The Go Pyeongchang application has been designed to help make travelling around Gangwon Province as easy as possible for all our local and international visitors during Games time.

"We have a wide variety of transport options for people to choose from and the app is a one-stop navigation to give you the best routes, timings and prices to make the Games experience as smooth and enjoyable as possible."

Go Pyeongchang is the latest app to be released by Pyeongchang 2018 following the launch of Pyeongchang 2018 Official on November 1.

Pyeongchang 2018 Official covered the Torch Relay until yesterday, when it switched to Games information including competition schedules, cultural event details and information on accommodation and transport.

When the Games begin the app will contain the latest event results, medal counts, athlete information and real-time event news.

Users will be able to select their preferred events and country to follow.

The Winter Olympics will take place between February 9 and 25, with the Paralympics following between March 9 and 18.
