World number one Tai Tzu Ying battled back from a set down to beat reigning Olympic champion Carolina Marin and reach the final of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Malaysia Masters in Bukit Jalil today.

In a superb and high quality contest, the Taiwanese player lost the first set against the fourth-seeded Spaniard 12-21 before beginning her fightback in this HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500 event. 

She won the second set 21-15 before clinching the decider 23-21 in a thrilling contest lasting 79 minutes at the Axiata Arena.

Fifth seed Ratchonok Intanon of Thailand, the 2013 world champion, now lies in wait in the final tomorrow.

Intanon was also pushed the full distance in a 70 minutes clash against second seed Akane Yameguchi of Japan in her semi-final before winning 21-15, 16-21, 21-19.

Japan enjoyed better fortunes in the semi-finals of the men's singles as Kenta Nishimoto won 21-14, 21-19 against Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus of Denmark.

This ended any prospect of an all-Danish final, although the European nation will still have a presence courtesy of top seed and world champion, Viktor Axelsen.

He thrashed Daren Liew, the last home player in either singles competition, 21-15, 21-11.
