The United States Olympic Committee has announced December's finalists for the Team USA awards.

The monthly prize, sponsored by Dow, recognises the achievement of American athletes around the world with fans picking winners in male, female and team categories.

Ten sports are represented for December, with figure skater Nathan Chen up for the men's prize after becoming the first American man to win the International Skating Union Grand Prix of Figure Skating Grand Final title in Nagoya in Japan.

Weightlifter Harrison Maurus, who ended a 20-year American medal drought at the World Championships, also gets a nod after total and clean and jerk bronzes in the 77-kilograms division on home soil in Anaheim.

Equestrian's Kent Farrington is nominated for jumping victories at the Credit Suisse Grand Prix and Rolex Grand Prix, allowing him to maintain the top world ranking for the eighth month in a row.

Two Para-athletes complete the list - swimmer Tharon Drake after his two golds and a silver at the World Championships in Mexico City and snowboarder Mike Schultz after he swept his events at the World Cup in Pyha in Finland.

In the women's category, Alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin is nominated after her superb month saw her win five World Cup competitions.

Snowboarder Chloe Kim is shortlisted after two halfpipe wins at the US Grand Prix and Dew Tour Olympic qualifying events, which booked her a place at Pyeongchang 2018.

Sarah Robles, who won all three weightlifting world titles at 90kg in Anaheim, is also on the list alongside Para-swimmer Jessica Long who won eight gold medals at the worlds in Mexico City.

Oksana Masters, who won three gold medals in biathlon and two silvers in cross-country at the Para Nordic Skiing World Cup in Canmore in Canada is also in the frame.

Three teams are in contention including mixed doubles curlers Becca and Matt Hamilton who secured the American spot for Pyeongchang 2018 with the discipline set to make its Olympic debut.

Figure skating siblings Alex and Maia Shibutani, who won Grand Prix Final bronze in Nagoya, are also nominated alongside the American Para-ice hockey team which won the World Sledge Challenge tournament for the fourth time in a row.
