Holders Norway have secured their place in the final of the Women's Handball World Championships after beating The Netherlands in Hamburg this evening.

The Norwegians triumphed 32-23 at the Barclaycard Arena.

It was nearly identical to the 31-23 scoreline from when the two countries met in the 2015 final.

Player of the match Nora Mørk top scored for Norway with eight goals, while Laura van der Heijden grabbed five for The Netherlands.

"Today we started well in our defence and our goalkeeper which, maybe, made our game along with our fast breaks," Norway coach Thorir Hergeirsson said.

"The second-half was a good game.

"It was more even, but I think we controlled it okay.

"We look forward to the final and we wish The Netherlands the best of luck in their bronze medal match."

Awaiting Norway in the final are Rio 2016 Olympic silver medallists France, who secured a narrow 24-22 win over Sweden in the dying moments of today's second semi-final.

The scores were level at 22-22 with 90 seconds left on the clock, but late goals from Allison Pineau and Blandine Dancette swung the tie in France's favour.

Team-mate Amandine Leynaud, the player of the match, then produced a save to thwart Sweden's last attack.

"Of course, I am very happy about the result tonight," Pineau said.

"It was a tough game against Sweden.

"Our goalkeeper [Amandine Leynaud] was fantastic."

The final, which features the same two nations that contested the gold medal match at the 2017 Men's Handball World Championships, is also scheduled to be held at the Barclaycard Arena on Sunday (December 17).

It will be preceded by the third-place play-off between The Netherlands and Sweden.
