France's Roger Yves Bost celebrated victory at the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) World Cup Western League Jumping competition in Madrid, following a tightly fought event.

The Olympic team jumping gold medallist was one of a host of riders to produce a clear first round at the Feria de Madrid Recinto.

A total of 18 riders would eventually go through to a jump off round of the competition.

Bost, riding on Sydney Une Prince, proved up to the challenge of producing a fast and flawless second round.

He was able to finish the course in a time of 42.23 seconds, without accruing any penalties.

The effort placed Bost at the top of the standings, with Belgium's Niels Bruynseels forced to settle for second place.

Riding on Cas de Liberte, Bruynseels finished the jump-off in a time of 42.67.

It was narrowly enough to push Mark McAuley into third place.

The Irish rider posted a time of 42.68 to miss out on finishing as the runner-up.

The high quality competition was apparent from the jump-off ending with 11 riders who had not received a penalty on either of their rounds.
