Well-known businesswoman Baroness Margaret Ford will join the Board of the British Olympic Association (BOA) as an independent non-executive director after a competitive recruitment process.

Baroness Margaret is known to many at the BOA through her role of chairing the Olympic Park Legacy Company.

From 2008 until 2012 she led the physical master planning for the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the commercial negotiations involved in the lead-up to London 2012. 

She currently chairs Scottish Television plc and is the senior independent director at SEGRO plc and New River Retail plc.

Her own sports are golf, tennis and cycling and she also chairs the British Tennis Foundation. 

She is the National President of the British Epilepsy Association.

Baroness Margaret will join her BOA colleagues for the first time at the November Board meeting.

"Baroness Ford brings to the BOA a unique combination of Board experience, commercial knowledge and a genuine love of sport," BOA chairman Sir Hugh Robertson said.

"I worked with her closely during London 2012, where she was primarily responsible for the legacy of the Olympic Park and am delighted that she is joining us at such an important time for British Olympic sport."

Other members of the BOA Board include Annamarie Phelps, the vice-chair and national governing bodies representatives Ian Howard, Richard Leman, Sarah Treseder, Hew Chalmers and David Sparkes.

They are joined by Ben Hawes, chair of the BOA Athletes' Commission, and other non-executive directors Andy Anson and David Ross.
