England's husband and wife team Chris and Gabrielle Adcock disappointed the home fans as mixed doubles began the Badminton World Federation Korea Open in Seoul.

The number two seeds defeated home South Korean duo Kim Duk-young and Kim Hye-rin to reach the second round at the SK Handball Stadium.

It was far from easy, however, as the Adcocks, bronze medallists at the World Championships in Glasgow last month, had to come from behind to progress.

They eventually came through 18-21, 21-14, 21-18 to seal their spot in the second round of the Super Series tournament.

The English duo are the new favourites to win the competition after China's top seeds Zheng Siwei and Chen Qingchen, the World Championship silver medallists, withdrew.

Indonesian fourth seeds Praveen Jordan and Debby Susanto also made it through today after a three-game clash with India's Pranav Chopra and N. Sikki Reddy.

They too needed to come from behind to win, triumphing 13-21, 21-19, 21-15.

There was more disappointment for South Korea as their top-ranked pair Choi Sol-gyu and Chae Yoo-jung pulled out prior to the start of their match.

It meant that Chinese Taipei's Wang Chi-lin and Lee Chia-hsin were automatically awarded victory over the seventh seeds.

Qualification matches have been taking place today in the men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles and women's doubles before the main draw begins tomorrow.
