The Air Sports Federation in Asia has been formed following a merger of the Airsport Federation of Asia (AFA) and the Asian Air Sports Federation ©FAI

A merger between the two main air sport federations in Asia has been agreed.

Following a meeting in Dubai which also involved the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and the World Air Sports Federation (FAI), Airsport Federation of Asia (AFA) and the Asian Air Sports Federation (AASF) has joined forces to form Air Sports Federation in Asia (ASFA).

A memorandum of understanding was signed between the parties and they will have an extraordinary assembly in May.

ASFA have already started working on preparations for the paragliding at the 2018 Asian Games being hosted in Jakarta, Indonesia, including a test event in August.

Alongside future editions of the Asian Games, the newly-formed organisation will also be looking at featuring sports under their banner at the Asian Winter Games and Asian Beach Games.

Another meeting is planned later this month with air sports representatives from around the continent set to participate on March 20 in Hong Kong.
