The International Floorball Federation (IFF) has suspend Russia’s membership over unpaid debts to them and the Slovak Floorball Association (SFA).

During a meeting of the IFF Central Board earlier this week, it was decided the National Floorball Federation of Russia (NFFR) would be banned from taking part in competitions organised by the sport’s global governing body.

It comes after the Russians confirmed they had not paid back money given to them by bosses at the SFA or the IFF.

The issue had originally been brought in front of the IFF on December 9 and at this meeting, a provisional suspension was handed out.

During another meeting on Monday, it was confirmed the debts had still not been repaid.

“The IFF Executive Committee had no other choice than to confirm the Central Board decision and the provisional suspension of the NFFR starting from March 6, as no payments have been made to the IFF community, as it is not correct that NFFR is living off the floorball community,” a IFF statement said.

“This means that the NFFR is suspended from all international activities, until the present issue has been resolved.

“The IFF urges the NFFR to reorganise the association in order to meet the requirements of the IFF membership and return Russian floorball as a full worthy members to the IFF family.

“The suspension can be revoked when and if the debts are paid and the IFF rules are followed.”

Under the suspension, Russia will not be allowed to compete at any IFF tournament, including the 2018 World Championships being hosted by the Czech Republic.

This ban applies to club sides along with the national team.

Players will not be allowed to make transfers from Russian clubs and IFF development activities will not involve the country during the suspension.
