Nick Matthew of England advanced to the semi-finals of the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Canary Wharf Classic in London today.

The top seed eased to a straight games victory over Australia's Cameron Pilley at East Wintergarden.

The Glasgow 2014 and Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games men's singles gold medallist took just 54 minutes to win 11-4, 11-9, 11-8.

"I’ve been working a lot on my game lately and put in a very good few weeks and feel like I’m moving better than I have done for a few years," said Matthew.

"I made a few errors in the second and third games that I know I’ll have to tighten up.

"I was trying to work him to the front and not just play length.

"Against Paul tomorrow I’ve got to keep that discipline together better but I’m really looking forward to it."

Standing in Matthew's way of a place in the final is New Zealand's Paul Coll.

He comfortably beat England's Daryl Selby in straight games 11-7, 11-3, 12-10.

In this evening's penultimate match, Borja Golan of Spain defeated Lucas Serme of France.

Golan, the tournament's seventh seed, took a tight opening game 14-12.

He increased his advantage by taking the second game 11-6.

The French qualifier failed to make a recovery and was knocked out when Golan claimed the decisive third game 11-6.

In this final match, Egypt's Fares Dessouky overcame Mathieu Castagnet of France in four games.

The Egyptian took the lead, winning the first game 11-7 before Castagnet won the second 9-11 to level the contest.

It was Dessouky, the fourth seed, who advanced to the final four though after he claimed the pivotal third and fourth games 11-3 and 11-6 to secure his progression.

Semi-finals are due to take place tomorrow before the competition draws to a close with the final on Friday (March 10).
