South Korea won both the men's and women's lead titles at the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) World Ice Climbing Championships in Champagny-en-Vanoise in France.

Shin Woonseon was victorious in the women's event as Park HeeYong climbed to the men's title.

Park was the first athlete to tackle the course and finished with 46 seconds to spare.

Russia's Nikola Kuzovlev looked set to take the lead from the Korean but a missed undercut proved vital with just the last hold remaining.

Yannick Glatthard of Switzerland was last to go and came even closer than Kuzovlev to ousting Park, the winner of the lead title during the UIAA World Cup season.

However, the Swiss had to settle for silver with Kuzovlev taking bronze.

In the women's competition, South Korean Han Na Rai Song entered as the world number one and after three World Cup gold medals, but she lost control shortly into her climb.

Shin, the defending world champion, took advantage to finish slightly in front of Italy's Angelika Rain.

Maria Tolokonina of Russia took the bronze medal, to cap a fine day where she had already won the speed world title.

The Russian defeated compatriot Ekaterina Feoktistova by a combined 1.24 second margin in the final two duels.

Another Russian, Pavel Batushev, won the men's crown by beating his team-mate Vladimir Kartashev.

Former women's world champion Ekaterina Koshcheeva's title defence ended as she lost out in a bronze medal climb against Nadezhda Gallyamova.

The men’s bronze medal was won by Leonid Malykh who ousted Radomir Proshchenko.
