Olympic silver medallist Marie Martinod of France produced a superb display as she won the gold medal in the women’s ski superpipe at the Winter X Games in Aspen in Colorado.

Martinod secured her second Winter X Games title and her first since 2013 with a best run of 89.33 points.

Japan’s Ayana Onozuka, halfpipe bronze medallist at Sochi 2014, had to settle for silver after she scored 87.00 on her second run.

Maddie Bowman of the United States saw her winning run in the superpipe event come to an end as she took bronze with a total of 86.00.

The American had been hoping to clinch a fifth straight superpipe crown having claimed gold in 2013, 2014, 2015 and at last year’s Winter X Games.

In the men’s competition, Aaron Blunck of the United States marked his seventh Winter X Games appearance with his first-ever gold medal.

Blunck stunned the rest of the field with 84.66 in his second run, coming after he had suffered a miserable opener which yielded just 30.00 from the judges.

Miguel Porteous delivered rare winter sport success for New Zealand as he sealed silver, 3.66 behind the winning total.

Canada’s Noah Bowman, a silver medallist in the superpipe event at the 2012 edition of the Winter X Games, rounded out the podium with bronze as his display was rewarded with 71.00.

Brock Hoyer of Canada won the Snow BikeCross event by clocking 14min 15.115sec, with Colton Haaker of the United States and Hoyer’s team-mate Cody Matechuk earning silver and bronze respectively.
