Hong Kong leg spin bowler Nizakat Khan has been given permission to resume his international cricketing career after his controversial action was declared legal.

Khan was suspended from bowling by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in July 2015 after his action was reported during   a World Twenty20 Qualifying match against Nepal in Stormont, Ireland.

The 24-year-old Pakistan-born player has since undergone a "reassessment" of his bowling action at the National Cricket Centre in Brisbane on December 6.

It was revealed there that the amount of elbow extension for all his leg-spin deliveries was within the 15-degree level of tolerance permitted under the ICC regulations for the review of bowlers reported with suspected illegal bowling actions.

He is thus allowed to bowl leg spin deliveries.

However, his off-spin balls will remain outlawed after they were also previously branded illegal and were not examined during the reassessment.

"The match officials are still at liberty to report Nizakat if they believe he is displaying a suspect action and not reproducing the legal action from the reassessment," the ICC added.

"To assist the match officials, they will be provided with images and video footage of the bowler’s remodeled legal bowling action."

Khan is a funded-member of the Hong Kong team and formed part of the squad which finished in fourth place at the Incheon 2014 Asian Games.

West Indian spinner Sunil Narine is among other bowlers whose action has been declared illegal and then reinstated in 2016.
