Service awards were presented by the International Floorball Federation (IFF) as the governing body marked their 30th anniversary in Riga.

The celebration event took place during the IFF World Championships in the Latvian capital city, with Finland emerging as the winners of the tournament after winning a penalty shoot-out with Sweden in the final.

Tomas Eriksson, who was re-elected as the governing body’s President at their General Assembly, gave a speech to mark the anniversary of the organisation.

It was announced that April 12 would be known as International Floorball Day, in recognition of the date the IFF were founded back in 1986 in Sweden.

Association of IOC Recognised International Federations (ARISF) President Raffaele Chiulli was among those present for the celebration, which saw a collection of photos from different eras of the sport featured, with submissions from a variety of nations.

Risto Kauppinen was among a number of officials to be honoured for their service at the event, with his work as a Central Board member between 1996 and 2014 seeing him receive a silver award.

The official was praised for his efforts related to competition, marketing and development in the IFF.

Czech referees Petr Cerny and Jiri Janousek also received silver awards, along with Switzerland’s Thomas Kläsi and Thomas Baumgartner.

Bronze service awards were presented to Hans Botman for his work in the Central Board and Rules and Competition Committee, as well as referee Rune Ali Zouhar of Norway.

Andris Dzenis would also pick up a bronze service award, having taken up several different roles within IFF competitions since 1996, including organising the Women’s World Floorball Championships in 2001.

It was the second time service awards had been handed out by the governing body, with the previous occasion being at the 25th anniversary in St Gallen in Switzerland.
