The Swiss player achieved the record during Switzerland’s last group stage match today at the Arena Riga.

Hofbauer has scored six points in the tournament so far and his tally of 89 points took him past the previous record holder, Norwegian floorball legend Willy Fauskanger, who has 88 points.

As well as breaking the record, Hofbauer also led his team to an impressive 11-3 win over Germany.

The Swiss team started impressively, scoring five points which were unanswered in the opening period.

Germany managed to stop the onslaught and managed to allow Switzerland to only extend their lead to 7-0 in the second.

Overall, Hofbauer and his teammates proved too strong as they secured their place in the next round courtesy of a 11-3 win.

Sweden secured top spot in Group B as they made it three wins out of three with another convincing win over the Czech Republic at the Arena Riga.

The Swedes have won the gold medal on nine occasions and look well placed to win a tenth.

Their prospects were boosted today as a brace from Rasmus Sundstedt helped them to an 8-4 win.

The Czech team also qualify for the next round in second place following two wins in their opening two matches.

In the final match in Group B this evening, hosts Latvia and Norway shared the spoils 5-5.

Denmark ensured they finished top of Group C with a comfortable 5-2 win over Slovakia today inside Arena Riga.

Three goals from Stefan Hedorf helped the Danes on their way to a third successive win this week. 

Slovakia joined them in the next round while Australia and Poland finished joint bottom of the pool after they shared the points in a 4-4 draw earlier today at the Olympic Sports Centre Elektrum.

In the final match of today's action Singapore inflicted a first defeat on the United States at the Olympic Sports Centre. 

The Asian team beat their American rivals 9-5, however the US have already qualified for the next round while Singapore were consigned to the bottom of Group C.

The top two teams in Groups A and B have directly advanced to the quarter-finals while teams placed third and fourth in these groups as well as teams placed first and second in Groups C and D will now compete in the first play-off round.

The winners of those games will then complete the quarter-final line up.
