Las Vegas has been confirmed as the host of the third round of this season's HSBC World Rugby Women's Sevens Series.

The American city is set to stage the event from March 3 to 4, with the competition running alongside the men’s event at the Sam Boyd Stadium.

"It's great to see the top women's teams visit Las Vegas," said Bill Beaumont, World Rugby Chairman.

"The women's series has gone from strength to strength every season and captivated Olympic audiences with its exciting, high-quality rugby.

"The series is sure to grow even further and fans in the USA are in for a treat when the women's series links up with the men's in Las Vegas."

It will be the third time the men’s and women’s events have run side by side in Las Vegas, with the latest announcement taking the number of rounds in the women’s series to six.

USA Rugby chief executive Dan Payne has hailed the sevens series in Las Vegas as the largest rugby event in the United States.

"We are very proud to combine the men's and women's HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series for what will be an unforgettable weekend next March," he said.

"The tournament in Las Vegas has become not just the largest rugby event in the United States, but one of the biggest overall weekends in Las Vegas in terms of tourism and spending, and this will just add another level of elite competition, pageantry and interest to the city and to our fast-growing sport."

The women’s series begins today in Dubai, with Australia seeking to make a strong start to the defence of their crown, which came before Olympic gold medal success at Rio 2016.

Sydney will stage the second event of the series on February 3 and 4, before the event heads to Las Vegas in March.

Kitakyushu in Japan will welcome the series for the first time between April 22 and 23, before the penultimate round is held in Langford, Canada, on May 27 and 28.

Clermont-Ferrand will bring an end to the proceedings, with the French venue hosting from June 24 to 25.
