The Fiji Taekwondo Association has targeted producing more athletes who can represent the country at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Fiji hosted the seventh Oceania Taekwondo Championship and the second edition of the Oceania Para-Taekwondo Championship this month at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.

The Pacific country has never fielded a representative in any Olympic taekwondo competition so far, while the Paralympic version will debut in Tokyo.

Daniel Mosese, the President of the Fijian Association, was in attendance at the Oceania Championships and believes the future looks bright for his country.

"Our aim is same as other teams and it is to go to the 2020 Olympic Games," he said to the Fiji Times.

"We are also looking at Para-athletes.

"We will talk to the Fiji Disabled People's Association to see how we can support them."

Fiji won six gold medals on the opening day of the Championships, providing hope that the country will be able to have a representative in Tokyo in four years time.

"We are trying to expose these athletes and it is a blessing that we had the Oceania event happening in Fiji," added Mosese.

"It is a big development for the sport and we are looking at more international competitions."
