Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk delighted his home crowd by winning the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Thailand Open men's singles title.

The 25-year-old fifth seed was in fine form at the Nimibutr Stadium in capital Bangkok, coming through against second-seeded Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia.

Kuncoro won the Singapore Super Series title earlier this season and was favourite in the final, but it was Saensomboonsuk who prevailed in straight games.

The former Southeast Asian Games champion came through 21-15, 21-16.

In the women's draw at the Grand Prix Gold level event, there was a reverse of fortunes for Thailand as third seed Busanan Ongbamrungphan could not provide a home winner.

The Thai went down to unseeded Japanese player Aya Ohori, who won a tight first game before running away with the final in the second.

The former Asian junior champion eventually prevailed, 25-23, 21-8.

Another home title did arrive in the women's doubles final, however, as top seeds Puttita Supajirakul and Sapsiree Taerattanachai lived up to their billing with a 21-12, 21-17 win over Japan's Mayu Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahara.

The men's doubles final saw victory for Indonesia's second seeds Berry Angriawan and Rian Agung Saputro, who saw off unseeded Japanese duo Takuto Inoue and Yuki Kaneko, 17-21, 21-14, 21-18.

In the mixed doubles final, Malaysians Tan Kian Meng and Lai Pei Jing dispatched Hong Kong duo Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet, 21-16, 22-20.
