The governing body has released the latest standings ahead of international events at the start of 2017 in the non-Olympic discipline.

It is the first time since February 2015 that the rankings have been updated, with the last modification following that year's FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup in Leipzig.

The Dutch enjoyed double success in the German city, winning both the men's and women's tournaments.

The new update to the standings follows the European Indoor Championships which took place in Prague and Minsk in January as well as the Asian Indoor Championships in Taldykorgan, Kazakhstan, in May 2016.

All of the top seven in the men's rankings remain unchanged, with Germany - winners of the European title in Prague - leading the way ahead of Austria who were runners-up in the Czech capital.

The Netherlands, who disappointingly finished seventh in Prague, hold on to third place, with Russia, Poland and the Czech Republic following in that order.

Iran, who were triumphant in Taldykorgan, are ranked seventh.

The Dutch lead the women's rankings after they won the female European tournament in Belarus' capital Minsk.

Germany remain in second with the Czechs moving up a place to third.

Poland and Belarus also climbed a spot each to fourth and fifth respectively, with Austria the big fallers from third to sixth after they left Minsk with a seventh place finish.

A new update to the list will be provided by the FIH after 2017's continental events.
