Three new members have been voted onto the Athletes' Commission of the Australian Olympic Committee following the Rio 2016 Games.

Canoe slalom athlete Jessica Fox and boxer Shelley Watts have been elected to the roles by members of the 2016 Australian Olympic team, alongside hockey player Jamie Dwyer.

The Athletes' Commission is tasked with providing advice to the AOC Executive on all matters regarding the Olympic Movement, from the athlete's perspective.

Fox won a silver medal in the K1 class at London 2012 and added a bronze last month in Rio.

"I'm really proud and excited to be a part of it and humbled to be voted in by my team-mates alongside some great athletes,” the 22-year-old said.

“I would like to be able to contribute ideas that could enrich the experience and performance of our athletes from all different sports before, during and after the Olympics.

“I am also interested in the growth of the Youth Olympic Games and transition into the Olympic team.”

Twenty-nine-year-old Watts described her first Olympic experience in Rio as "amazing", despite losing a challenging first round bout to Italian Irma Testa in the lightweight class.

"To see my face on the wall with such amazing other athletes was a little surreal,” said Watts, the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth champion.

"To know that my fellow team-mates felt comfortable enough to vote for me to be their voice is something really special to me."

Dwyer and the Australian men's hockey team were eliminated in the quarter-finals by The Netherlands but the 37-year-old already had a gold medal from Athens 2004 in his collection as well as bronzes from Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

The new trio join a group which features eight summer and two winter athletes as well as International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athletes' Commission member, James Tomkins, a rower.

Swimmer Cate Campbell, rower Kim Brennan, athlete Alana Boyd and canoeist Ken Wallace also represent the summer sports, while freestyle skiers Lydia Lassila and Ramone Cooper are the winter members.

The group is due to meet at the end of next month to elect a chair and deputy chair.
