The top three seeds in both the men's and women's singles competitions all safely progressed to the quarter-finals of their competitions today in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) 2016 Brazil Grand Prix.

In the men's tournament, number one seed Zulfadli Zulkiffli of Malaysia comfortably beat Brazilian Mateus Car Cutti 21-7, 21-7 in just 39 minutes to secure his place in the next round in Foz do Iguacu.

Israel's Misha Zilberman, the second seed, also made it through after a 21-14, 21-14 win over another Brazilian in Igor Ibrahim. 

There was some good news for the host nation, however, as third seed Ygor Coelh Oliveira overcame Austrian Luka Wraber in straight sets 21-8, 21-16.

In the women's singles, Spaniard and top seed Beatriz Corrales and Brazilian third seed Lohaynny Vicente were both awarded walkover victories over respective opponents Damaris Me Ortiz Para of Venezuela and Naira Beat Vier of Brazil.

Meanwhile, second seed, Airi Mikkela of Finland also eased through with a comfortable 21-5, 21-11 win over another Brazilian, Thalita Correa.

One of the biggest shocks of the day arrived in the men's doubles as the fourth seeds, Austrian duo Luka Wraber and Vilson Vattanirap, were eliminated from the competition by an unseeded pair in Toby Ng and B.R. Sankeerth of Canada.

Elsewhere in the men's doubles, Indian top seeds Manu Attri and B. Sumeeth Reddy were handed a walkover in their contest with Brazilian pair Felippe Cury Fonse and Luiz dos Santos Junior, while second seeds Matijs Dierickx and Freek Golinski of Belgium beat Leonardo Alkimin and Mateus Car Cutti of Brazil 21-4, 21-12. 

In the final stages of today's play all three of the top seeds also advanced in the mixed doubles competition.

Indian pair, and number one seeds, Pranaav Je Chopra and N. Sikki Reddy progressed with an easy 21-7, 21-6 win over Brazilians Igor Ibrahim and Naira Beat Vier.

The second seeds, Canadian duo Toby Ng and Rachel Honderich,, saw off another Brazilian team, Alisson Vasconcell and Paloma Edu Silva 21-12, 21-20, while third seeds, and fellow Brazilians, Hugo Arthuso and Fabiana Silva beat Germany's Fabian Holzer and Barbara Bellenberg 21-14, 21-16.
