The second edition of the “Run for Art” competition has taken place in Italy with the initiative aimed at creating an exhibition of pictures that expresses the values of sport.

After the successful organisation of the first edition of the event by the Giulio Onesti Foundation, a non-profit organisation named after the President of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) from 1944 to 1978, the second staging was aimed at embracing the whole of the European continent.

The competition focuses on the union between art and sport, expressed through photography which best interprets physical activity and movement.

Supported by the Italian and International Olympic Academies, the contest was given the theme of diversity this year.

Organisers claim the word respects and values all the differences, promoting an inclusive culture in every field, including ability, age, culture, ethnicity and gender.

The five fields were chosen as award categories, with photos having been welcomed from young European amateurs and professional photographers aged 18 to 35.

Participation was free, with a jury composed of sport and art experts from the CONI, the Italian Olympic Academy and the European Olympic Committees now set to decide on eight photos per category.

The selected entrants will have their work displayed in September, at the European Parliament.

Five winners, one for each of the categories, will then be invited to attend the inaugural ceremony in Strasbourg.
