Hong Kong's Wong Wing Ki moved into the quarter-finals of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Vietnam Open with a straightforward second round win over India's Aditya Joshi today.

The number four seed is the best ranked player left in the men's singles draw and came through 21-11, 21-16 at the Nguyen Du Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City.

He has set up a last eight clash with Malaysia's Zulfadli Zulkiffli, a former double gold medallist at the World Junior Championships.

He came through easily against Thailand's Mek Narongrit today, 21-8, 21-9.

Another Malaysian, Chong Wei Feng, also booked his quarter-final passage thanks to a victory over Japan's Koki Watanabe.

The mixed team Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist won 21-16, 21-12.

The tournament, a Grand Prix Gold level event, lacks any top name stars with Rio 2016 looming.

In the women's event, Chinese Taipei's top seed Hsu Ya-ching moved into the quarter-finals after ousting Indonesia's Dinar Dyah Ayustine 21-14, 21-16.

Hong Kong's third seed Cheung Ngan Yi disappointed the home crowd by ending the hopes of Vietnam's Nguyen Thuy Linh, 21-5, 21-13.

Another Vietnamese, Vu Thi Trang, is still in with a shout, however.

The fourth seed progressed with a 21-17, 22-20 win over Indonesian Yulia Yosephin Susanto.

Quarter-final action is scheduled for tomorrow.
