The five-time runners-up dominated the contest from start to finish on their way to clinching their maiden World League crown.

They also pocketed a cool $1 million (£756,000/€907,000) as a result of their success.

The European side, the current world number 12, dictated the tempo against the Brazilians, who were unable to reach the heights they had managed earlier on at the tournament.

The result ended Brazil's hopes of a 10th World League gold medal and dealt their confidence a blow with Rio 2016, where they are the favourites for the Olympic title, just around the corner.

In the bronze medal match, defending champions France breezed to a 25-23, 25-21, 25-20 success over Italy.

From early on in the final, it quickly became apparent that the Serbian side wanted it more as they found the perfect balance of firm defence and well-directed attacks.

Brazil showed tiredness throughout and weren't at their best, leaving Serbia to take full advantage in brutal fashion.

Marko Ivovic led the scoring for Serbia, whose last defeat in the FIVB World League final came last year when they were beaten by France, but Brazil's Wallace claimed the top-scoring honours, though his efforts proved to be in vain.

The contest itself wasn't in keeping with the rest of the tournament as a large majority of the matches throughout the week in the Polish city went the distance.

Serbian star Uroš Kovačević joked that the triumph represents a bigger achievement than winning Olympic gold.

"We are the best team in the world right now and I am very happy," he said.

"Brazil didn't play at the level that they usually play but we took our chance and we won.

"The World League is more important than the Olympic Games because we won the Olympics but we never won the World League."
