Rio 2016 bound athletes Andrique Allisop and Rodney Govinden joined young children to celebrate Olympic Day in Seychelles.

The duo were present at Plaisance Secondary School, with the Seychelles National Olympic Committee keen to mark the occasion by inspiring young athletes at primary and secondary schools across the country.

A session which attempted to raise their understanding of Olympism and the Olympic Movement was held as part of the day.

The duo joined children in a variety of sporting activities, including participating in a run fun, as well as wall painting.

Participants in the event were given a t-shirt and certificate, while they heard a message from International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach.

Boxer Allisop and sailor Govinden were both at the event at the school in an attempt to encourage and motivate young people to take part in sport.

Govinden secured his Rio spot by virtue of his performances at the African Championship Olympic Qualifier in Algiers, after finishing second overall in the laser category behind Tunisia's Youssef Akrout.

He has benefited from receiving Olympic Solidarity funding this year and will be one of two sailors from the country at the Games, with Jean-Marc Gardette having qualified in the R:SX windsurfing event.

Allisop will compete in the men’s 60 kilogram lightweight event at Rio 2016 and will hope to improve on his first round defeat in the boxing tournament at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Seychelles have yet to secure an Olympic medal in their history, but could have five athletes representing the country at Rio 2016.
