A Sport for All festival aimed at increasing participation in a range of sports has been held by the Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) in the town of Selebi-Phikwe.

The festival, sponsored by the Olympic Solidarity initiative, was also designed to find the next talented youngsters in the African country who may then go on to compete on the international stage for their nation.

It is hoped some of the children who participated would have found a sport they are naturally gifted at so that they can specialise in that particular discipline, which forms part of Botswana's long-term athlete development framework.

The two-day event began with a focus on local schools as the BNOC continue to search for athletes who could have elite-level careers before it was opened up to the general public.

Demonstrations and mini-games from a wide spectrum of sports, including cycling, boxing, karate, athletics, ballroom dancing and ball sports such as football, tennis and rugby, took place, while participants also got the opportunity to try out zumba and other forms of traditional dance.

Attendees were educated on anti-doping and also took part in a BNOC quiz to learn more about the Olympic values, the spirit of Olympism and friendship.

Educational, health and wellness topics were also taught to attendees.

The Sport for All festival was staged with the support of the community in Selebi-Phikwe, located in the Central District of Botswana, and also the office of the District Commissioner.
