The Virgin Islands Olympic Committee (VIOC) is calling on school students to create posters representing life in the Virgin Islands with the view to taking them to Rio 2016 as presents for other nations.

The VIOC wants to show the 207 countries that will be competing at this year’s Olympic Games "a little bit" about the United States Virgin Islands.

Posters should represent any aspect of life on the islands, ranging from their flora and fauna to their people.

Use of the Olympic Rings is encouraged in the students' artwork, which should also aim to reflect the Olympic values of respect, excellence and friendship.

Winners will be crowned in three districts - Saint Thomas, Saint John and St. Croix - in the categories of elementary school, middle school and high school.

Each will receive $250 (£172/€223).

Artwork must be done on an 8x11.5in sheet of paper and should include the producer’s name, school and grade.

VIOC secretary general Lyn Reid has asked educators to arrange art work collection by May 31.
