A wheelchair basketball player who continued to compete after receiving a two-year ban by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has had his results for that period disqualified.

Dylan Fischbach, who played for the  US under-23 team in 2013, failed to provide a sample as requested by an doping control officer during an out-of-competition test last summer and received a two-year suspension.

Fischbach, however, continued to compete in National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) competition with University of Wisconsin at the collegiate level, violating the terms of his suspension, which had started on October 27 last year.

Fischbach has escaped a more serious punishment.

"Through its investigation USADA established that both the NWBA and Fischbach were operating under the mistaken belief that his sanction did not prohibit him from such competition," USADA said in a statement.

"Accordingly, USADA considers Fischbach’s level of fault in this matter to be negligible.

"Under the World Anti-Doping Code, athletes who violate the terms of their period of ineligibility can be subject to disqualification of individual results."
