Great Britain Park and Pipe has launched a new national snowsports competition league called Championship Ski and Snowboard (CSS) - which will be entirely video based.

It is hoped that the concept will help to grow and nurture freestyle talent in the country, with organisers claiming that it will be the first competition of its kind in the world.

Crews representing slopes in the UK will go head to head with other teams by submitting videos of their best tricks.

The footage will be judged, scored and edited into "matches" which will be posted on the CSS website and shared across social media.

International level judges will decide the winners with the competition allowing teams to battle against each other without the cost of having to travel around the country.

Prizes - including a new feature for their home slope - will be up for grabs as well as the honour of being crowed the best in the country.

Top teams will also be invited to live finals at major UK skiing and snowboard events in October.

Hamish McKnight, head snowboard coach of the GB Park and Pipe Team, came up with the concept.

"CSS embodies everything that has been missing from UK free-ski and freestyle snowboarding over the past few years," he said.

"But most of all, my idea for CSS was starting something that should just be great fun.”

The competition will begin in May with teams consisting of four riders.

They much include one female and one "young gun" under the age of 15.
