The Russian Volleyball Federation (RVF) has claimed it plans to submit a complaint with the Disciplinary Committee of the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) regarding an incident during Dinamo Krasnodar’s match against Galatasaray Daikin in Istanbul on Tuesday (March 29).

The first leg of the CEV Volleyball Cup - Women finals was overshadowed by the supposed misconduct of Turkish fans, who reportedly threw rubbish and other objects at Russian volleyball players after their team’s 25-14, 22-25, 25-16, 21-25, 15-13 victory.

Tatiana Kosheleva also claimed that Galatasaray Daikin’s head coach Ataman Güneyligil was showing a middle finger to her and the team’s staff several times during the game.

"We will definitely report to the CEV about the incident," RVF President Stanislav Shevchenko told the Russian news agency TASS.

"We have video recordings of everything.

"Our teams played away matches in Turkey, including the Russian national team, Zenit-Kazan and Dinamo Moscow, and we have established work contacts with the Turkish Federation of Volleyball.

"The hosting side had always provided all the necessary conditions regarding security.

"However, the match of Dinamo Krasnodar was wrapped up with an unpleasant ending and inadequate fans spoiled all good impressions from the game."

The second leg of the tie is scheduled to be held in Krasnador on Saturday (April 2), when Cossack patrol groups will be assisting law enforcers to provide security.

"Security measures will be enhanced," Dinamo Krasnodar’s press service told TASS.

"It will be a high-level match and we also have to take into account yesterday’s incident.

"Security will be provided by Cossack patrol groups jointly with law enforcement bodies.

"It is worth stressing that our [Russian] fans will not behave this way.

"We are hospitable people."

Russian Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the Kremlin would "keep an eye" on the situation.

"If something like that really did take place, although it is very hard to believe, because such behaviour is certainly unseemly, then yes, there is a possibility of an official reaction," he added.

Dinamo Krasnodar are the reigning CEV Volleyball Cup champions, while Galatasaray Daikin finished joint third with Rabita Baku last year.

Relations between Russia and Turkey had been strained since November when an F-16 fighter jet from the Turkish Air Force downed a Russian Su-24 warplane over the Syrian-Turkish frontier.

It led the Kremlin to impose sanctions on Ankara as well as cut down its exports to Turkey and discourage its tourists from travelling to the country.
