Coventry University are set to stage the third edition of the Disability Sport Conference, they announced today.

The international Conference, due to take place June 27 to 29. will hope to attract both academics and practitioners, with the three-days due to see a focus on the use of disability sport as a tool for peace, development and social inclusion.

Following the success of the first two Conferences in 2012 and 2014, this year’s event has been given the theme “Disability Sport: Why do we ‘Dis’ people’s abilities?”.

The Conference will centre around four main themes, including sport and health for people with disabilities and Paralympic legacies.

Disability sport for peace and development will be another key topics, with the final theme focused on disability sport and social inclusion.

With the conference taking place in June, it will precede this year's Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, scheduled to take place from September 7 until 18.

Dr Ian Brittain, an expert on Paralympic and disability sports, will chair the Conference at Coventry University’s Centre for Business in Society (CBiS).

“It’s a testament to the profile and influence of our event that such esteemed figures will be joining us to celebrate global disability sport.”

Previous editions of the conference have attracted notable speakers, including International Paralympic Committee President Sir Philip Craven.

Delegates from countries such as Nepal and Nigeria have also been in attendance at the last two conferences.

The CBiS are also looking to interview candidates for a PhD studentship which will centre around the Paralympic legacy, Rio 2016 and the Invictus Games.
