Hosts Italy swept the men’s podium at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Snowboard World Cup in Cortina d'Ampezzo with Christoph Mick coming out on top.

Mick claimed the first World Cup of his career in the single run, parallel slalom format finals and led the first-ever Snowboard World Cup podium sweep for his country.

The 27-year-old fought the race of his life against the reigning parallel slalom world champion Roland Fischnaller, who slipped away at one of the first gates on the 306-metre long course but managed to catch up again.

In the end, Mick won by virtue of a slender advantage, while in the battle for third, Mirko Felicetti crossed the finish line ahead of his team-mate Maurizio Bormolini.

"I can't describe my feelings," said Mick.

"I'm so happy about the first place, and of course I'm happy for the result of the Italian team.

"It's been a good slope and a perfect competition for us."

Italy also occupied sixth position through Aaron March with Austria’s Alexander Payer ending up in fifth place.

In the women’s final, Switzerland's Patrizia Kummer took an easy win after Italian racer Nadya Ochner made a decisive mistake right before the flat middle section on the Tondi Normale slope.

"I'm just happy," said Kummer, the reigning parallel giant slalom Olympic champion.

"It was a very close race.

"Today, from the second qualification run on, I was close to the riding I want to have.

"I'm glad that it all worked out today.

"The win is a good confidence boost for 2016.

"It's good to be back on the podium."

Germany’s Cheyenne Loch, who had lost the semi-final against Kummer by the smallest of margins, rounded out the podium behind Ochner to earn the best result of her career.

The current parallel slalom world champion, Ester Ledecká of the Czech Republic, had to settle for fourth spot.

The Snowboard World Cup tour is due to continue with an individual and team parallel slalom in Bad Gastein in Austria on January 9 and 10.
