He has claimed he has received no official reason from the Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA) for his forced departure, though, according to newspaper The Straits Times, players in the team had questioned the Chinese coach's capability and professionalism.

It has been reported that Yang, given an excellence award by the governing body last year, failed to treat the players equally and struggled to adapt to new training regimes.

Men's team assistant coaches Wang Xiang and Zhu Jiang have been placed in temporary charge of the side, with no deadline for a replacement to be appointed despite the short timeline until next year’s Olympics.

Yang was widely considered a success after he coached Gao Ning and Yang Zi to Singapore’s first Asian Table Tennis Championships men’s doubles gold for 60 years at the 2012 event in Macau.

He also helped the country to doubles bronze at both the 2013 Asian Championships and last year's Asian Games in Incheon.

“Things [within the STTA] were already getting quite messy so I was already mentally preparing myself,” Yang said.

“From [last month's] Asian Championships until now, no-one from the STTA has spoken to me.

“I've always felt that if people can come together amicably to partner each other, they can also end a relationship on good terms.

“There's no need for things to finish on such a sour note.

"I've been in Singapore for more than five-years, I do miss home and want to be with my family, but it just doesn't make sense the way things are being done now.

“The results that I've helped produce in my time here is there for all to see."

In another blow to the sport in the country, women’s coach Jing Junhong has also been relieved from her role and redeployed to work as chief coach of youth development.

Her sacking comes after reports surfaced of a spat between Yu Mengyu, a member of the Singapore team which won gold at the 2010 World Championships, and Jing, with the player claiming an argument with the coach had caused her to lose a doubles match.

The STTA had also said both Yu and team-mate Feng Tianwei, bronze medallist at London 2012, had requested for a change of coach a mere week before the Polish Open last month.
