Both of their successes would come in the girl’s events with Mzia Beboshvili underlining her billing as the favourite for the 52 kilogram event by overcoming The Netherlands’ Ilse Buren with a match winning ippon to take gold.

Eter Lipareliani followed her team mates victory by winning Georgia’s third judo gold of the festival by triumphing in the 57kg weight division with an ippon over Polish Anna Dabrowska, while Russia’s Danna Nagucheva and Finland’s Emilia Kanerva earned bronze medals.

The third and final judo event of the day saw Azerbaijan’s Hasil Jafarov take gold in the boy’s under 73kg event as he overcame Romania’s Adrian Ciolan Razvan, after a yuko proved enough to separate the two competitors at the end of the contest.

Hungary’s medal haul continued to rise at the New Tbilisi Swimming Pool as Marton Barta claimed the boy’s 400 metre freestyle crowned after completing the distance in 4min 24.73sec, finishing four seconds clear of Spain’s Hugo Gonzalez de Oliveira, who earned silver.

The penultimate day of swimming competition also saw Sweden’s Hannah Brunzell win the girls’ 100m breaststroke title in 1:10.66, while Spain saw off competition from Germany and Russia to take the mixed 4x100m freestyle relay after clocking a time of 3:38.28.

A second Spanish gold of the day was sealed in athletics as Aleix Salvador Porras Cantons triumphed in the boy’s 400m hurdles in a time of 52.52, however Finland’s Viivi Lehikanen went a step further in the girl’s event in addition to winning gold she broke the EYOF record by setting a time of 57.74.

The highlight of the three field events was a personal best performance by Hungary’s Ferenc Aranyi in the boy’s discus with his effort of 57.45m proved enough to take the title, ahead of Cyprus’ Giorgos Koniarakis who finished as the runner-up by achieving a distance of 56.13m.

A thrilling high jump competition saw three girls end with a successful effort of 1.80m, however owing to her competitors Maja Helena Nilsson of Sweden and Ireland’s Sommer Lecky failing at earlier heights, Russia’s Ekaterina Prikhodkova took the title.

There further success for Russia as Daria Skrypnik earned gold in the girl’s all-round gymnastics event having achieved a total for 55.750 points, while Britain’s Joe Fraser added to his gold in the team event by winning the boy’s all-round, having accrued 84.750 points.

Both of the cycling road races concluded with superb sprint finishes by the Tbilisi Sea as breakaway’s were unable to stay clear until the end of both the 47.4 kilometre girl’s event and the 71.1km boy’s race.

The girl’s gold was claimed by Italy’s Letizia Paternoster as she held off the challenge of Denmark’s Sesilia Jorgensen and France’s Clara Copponi to take the victory in 1hour 18min 21sec, with the top 42 riders all being awarded the same finishing time.

Switzerland’s Samuel Steiger prevailed in the men’s race in 1:39:57, after edging Slovakia’s Mateus Stocke and Britain’s Alfred Wright on the line.
