The Qatar Olympic Academy (QOA), a sub-committee of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), a sub-committee of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC),  has held a “productive” workshop at its headquarters in Al Gharafa, focusing on Olympic values for physical education teachers.

The two-week workshop, which aimed to provide teachers with the necessary skills to arrange Qatar’s Schools Olympic Programme (SOP) competitions, was organised in cooperation with the Supreme Education Council and national sports federations.

The SOP was launched as a legacy of the 2006 Asian Games in Doha and has grown from 7,099 participants from 300 schools in its inaugural year, to 25,454 students from over 461 schools in 2014.

The number of sports on the programme has also rose this year to a total of 14, including Olympic and Paralympic sports.

Students compete throughout the school year with the ultimate goal of qualifying for the finals, with this year’s taking place in March at the famous Aspire Dome, another legacy of the 2006 Asian Games.

The Closing Ceremony of the workshop was attended by QOA executive director Ibrahim Al Jefairi, vice Dean Ali Al Bakri, and head of sport training Ayman Al Keki.

The trio were joined by various course lecturers, including volleyball's Hashi Abdulrahman Al Rawi, athletics' Feras Mohammad, and table tennis' Zeyad Abu Karki.

Al Jefairi thanked the Supreme Education Council, the physical education teachers and the coaches for their participation.

The QOA was founded in 2006 with the aim of becoming a leading academy for sports and Olympic education nationally, in the Arabic-speaking region and within the international Olympic Movement.
