Themes announced for Opening and Closing Ceremonies for Nottingham 2015 CPISRA World Games

Aspirations and transformations will be the themes of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies at the Cerebral Palsy International Sports and Recreation Association (CPISRA) World Games in Nottingham, it has been announced.

The governing body have also revealed that the Ceremonies will be led by Nottingham arts organisations City Arts and Dance4 and will be directed by well-known actor Jamie Beddard.

He was involved in a film entitled “Breathe” which was shown at the opening of the sailing events at the Olympic Games in London in 2012.

The Opening Ceremony, due to take place August 7, will focus on the “aspirations” aspect, detailing the journey the athletes will have made to be part of the World Games as well as their ambitions for the event.

A specially-choreographed dance will be displayed and the Organising Committee are seeking participants from the local areas.

The Closing Ceremony, which is scheduled for August 16, will carry a theme of “transformations”, where athletes will divulge their experiences of the 10-day event and their sporting achievements.

Video artist Barret Hodgson will film key moments of the Games and put together a video package capturing the main elements of the competition, which will also be exhibited at the Ceremony.

Damian Caldwell, who has worked with British comedians such as Michael McIntyre in the past, has been commissioned to produce the music for both Ceremonies, which are set to be one of the highlights of the Games themselves.

“For the athletes taking part, the CPISRA World Games will likely be their first opportunity to compete at a national level - it will be quite an experience for these young athletes,” event director Alison Talbot said.

“We feel the theme really captures the essence of this and we can’t wait to see how the hopes and experiences of all those involved are brought to life during the Ceremonies.”

The 2015 CPIRSA World Games will feature sports such as athletics, bowls, swimming, football and table cricket.
