Christian Klaue, head of media at the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), is to take up a new post with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) focused around working with German-speaking countries.

A former journalist with news agency Sport-Informations-Dienst, Klaue joined the DOSB in 2009 and swiftly succeeded Gerd Graus as the body's head of media and public relations, a role for which he has since been widely praised.

The 40-year-old, currently here to lead the DOSB team at the European Games, will relocate to Lausanne to start on September 1 in the new post, which will see him revive a relationship with former DOSB head and current IOC President Thomas Bach.

He worked closely alongside Bach in his bid for the IOC Presidency in 2013, and was widely expected by some to move with him to the IOC then soon afterwards.

Klaue will focus towards facilitating the increased demand for coverage of the Olympic Movement from German-speaking countries during the tenure of Bach, although some of the details of exactly what roles he will play remain a work in progress.

"I am looking forward to starting," he told insidethegames here today.

"I have spent six enjoyable years at the DOSB and am now excited to take up a new challenge."

This comes as the IOC restructures its communications department as part of the continued "implementation" of the Agenda 2020 reform process.

Departmental director Mark Adams recently presented a new plan for strategic communications with the aim of "linking the power of the Olympic Rings and the Olympic Games to the IOC".

As part of this, the role of Adams himself is expected to "evolve to giving closer support to the President in the day-to-day execution of his duties and as Presidential spokesman", with the official accompanying Bach on almost all of his international visits so far this year.
