An International Blind Sport Federation (IBSA) training course is starting in Finland today to help local players and officials with establishing new programmes in the sport.

The two-day course, which comes just months after the setting up of a new initiative in blind football in Helsinki, will consist of experienced international coaches working with local players, coaches and referees in a series of training sessions.

Taking place with support from the Football Association of Finland and the Finnish Sports Association of Persons with Disabilities, the IBSA member organisation in the country, a stakeholders meeting is also planned to build a strategy for future development.

It comes soon after a visit paid by IBSA Football to neighbouring Sweden for a similar initiative, demonstrating increased interest in Nordic countries in playing blind football.

The training weekend is funded by IBSA thanks to support from UEFA, and is part of the ongoing IBSA Blind Football Development Project Europe.

Plans are now underway to organise a similar activity farther afield in Georgia next month, it has been announced.
