Paralympic gold-medal winning skier Charlotte Evans will be hosting an elite sports information day in Kent on Monday (May 25) designed to give young athletes an insight in to what it takes to succeed in sport at the highest level.

Evans won the women’s Super-G title at Sochi 2014, as the guide for visually impaired skier Kelly Gallagher, marking Great Britain’s first-ever Winter Paralympic triumph.

The 24-year-old will be the star attraction at the Make the Difference event in Medway Park, Gillingham where youngsters looking to break into elite level sport will be assisted in their ambitions.

“Having made the journey from a young talented athlete to Paralympic champion, I know exactly what it takes to reach the very top in your chosen sport,” said Evans, who is from the Medway town of Chatham.

“Since winning gold, I have been working with Medway Sport to develop kids in sport and to open up opportunities for them, which is something I feel passionate about.”

The day will include four interactive workshops, delivered by Evans and her colleagues, giving attendees the chance to ask questions and learn from their insight and experience.

The workshops will give advice on teamwork, overcoming adversity, coping with injury, and anti-doping, as well as juggling schooling with sporting commitments.

“I wanted to give talented athletes a unique opportunity, where they can have fun alongside learning.

“When I first started out, I would love to have known about things like the anti-doping process and what to look out for.

“This is the first event but if it goes well, I’d really like to be able to have more events across the country and help as many young athletes as possible.”
