Canadian Mikaël Kingsbury came out on top in the men's dual moguls competition at the Freestyle Skiing World Cup in Tazawako to secure his seventh straight victory, and eclipse the mark of six consecutive wins he already co-held with the United States' Jeremy Bloom.

The 22-year-old's success also brought him level with France's Edgar Grospiron on the most men's moguls World Cup wins and with one event left to go in the season, he could end the campaign as the most decorated moguls skier of all time.

Kingsbury was pushed to the limit by his team mate and good friend Philippe Marquis in the big final but held his nerve to move a step closer to unrivalled greatness.

Australia's Matt Graham took third place, overcoming Canada's Simon Pouliot-Cavanagh in the small final for his third podium of the season.

Meanwhile on the women's side, the US' young sensation Morgan Schild captured her first-ever World Cup victory, beating home crowd favourite Satsuki Ito in the big final

The 17-year-old, who was the youngest competing athlete, also defeated Canada's Justine Dufour-Lapointe, Japan's Junko Hoshino and fellow upstart Alex-Anne Gagnon in three difficult heats.

Schild showed the skill and poise that have many tagging her as the heir-apparent to compatriot Hannah Kearney, taking the win in tough conditions in just her sixth World Cup start.

Retiring legend Kearney was seeking to tie the women's moguls record of 46 victories held by fellow countrywoman Donna Weinbrecht, and although she struggled a bit on the day, she was still able to wrestle a third-place podium result at the expense of Gagnon in the small final.

Kearney has extended her World Cup lead over Dufour-Lapointe to 146 points, thereby clinching her fifth-straight moguls crystal globe.

The tour now moves to Megève, France for the moguls World Cup finals, with the dual competition set to take place on March 15.
