The FISE World Series  has launched its bidding process for the 2016 to 2018 period ©FISE World SeriesThe International Extreme Sports Festival (FISE) World Series has announced the launch of its bidding process for the 2016 to 2018 period, with the dates and locations for this year's edition to be revealed next month.

The Series, which features BMX, skateboard, roller, mountain bike slopestyle and wakeboard among other action sports, was first held last year and consisted of events in Montpellier, France; Andorra La Vella, Andorra; Chengdu, China; and Langkawi, Malaysia from May to December.

It provides top international riders the opportunity to compete several times a year, as well as having an overall ranking at the end of it and gain prize money.

Amateurs also have the chance to participate and compete against the professionals, with each winner automatically eligible to upgrade to the professional ranks the following year.

More than 2,200 professional and amateur athletes, and 650,000 spectators turned out for the 2014 edition, which saw Venezuela's Daniel Dhers top the overall BMX rankings and France's Julien Bechet and Stephane Alfano reign supreme in skateboard and roller respectively.

Belgium's Thomas Genon took the mountain bike slopestyle accolade, while Thailand's Daniel Grant ranked highest in wakeboard.

Cities interested in hosting the Series between 2016 and 2018 are asked to submit a letter of interest at www.bidfise.com and pay the application fee of €2,000 (£1,500/$2,300) by May 13.

According to the FISE World Series Brochure, it will cost each city approximately €760,000 (£562,000/$863,000) to host an event featuring a minimum of four disciplines. 

The closing date for formal bid applications is June 19, with the selection of the host city finalists due to take place on July 15. 

Hurricane Action Sports, the communication agency which created the FISE in 1997, is set to announce the host cities in December.

"The uniqueness of the event format guarantees you to leave lasting memories and unforgettable experience for your local community," read a statement from FISE World Series.

"With over 2,000 hours of TV broadcast dedicated to your FISE event, handled by IMG in over 200 markets worldwide, your city will reach a young and international audience."
