Dato Zainal Abu Zarin will present a keynote address at the Asian Paralympic Committee General Assembly ©APC FacebookThe Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) is gearing up to open its General Assembly and Conference in Abu Dhabi tomorrow, where it will chart plans and initiatives for the region's Paralympic Movement for the next five years.

The three-day event in the United Arab Emirates capital's Yas Viceroy Hotel will see delegates from 39 member nations gathering to attend the conference - themed "The Next Five Years: Fulfilling the APM2020 Vision" - before the APC Board elections for the 2014-2018 term on Wednesday (December 3).

The conference will feature speeches from International Paralympic Committee (IPC) chief executive Xavier Gonzalez, who will give a presentation titled "The Global Paralympic Movement: The Effect, Impact and Expectation on IPC Region", and Wilfried Lemke, the United Nations secretary general's special adviser on sport for development and peace.

APC President Dato Zainal Abu Zarin is also scheduled to present his keynote address titled "The Next Five Years: The Power of Para Games of Asia", which will reveal the organisation's vision towards the future for the Paralympic Movement, while other topics include sports, classification, anti-doping and the APC Sports Forum.

Meanwhile, all five regions under the umbrella of the APC are expected to sign an agreement to pledge their commitment to organising regional Games, including next year's Association of Southeast Asian Nations Para Games in Singapore, the Islamabad 2015 South Asia Para Games and the first West Asia Para Games in Khorfakkan from December 3 to 9 next year.
