The Chinese Basketball Association Professional League tipped off on Saturday ©2013 Sohu.comThe 20th edition of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) Professional League has tipped off as the defending champions Beijing Ducks beat the Guangdong Southern Tigers 103-89 in the capital's MasterCard Centre.

The 2014-2015 season, scheduled to run until March, will include a total of 417 matches between 20 competing clubs.

Two new clubs, Chongqing Aolong from West China and Jiangsu Tongxi from the East, have achieved qualification to increase the scope of the CBA League.

An increasingly high number of established stars from the United States' National Basketball Association (NBA), and international youth athletes, are joining the CBA League such as Stephon Marbury of the Beijing Ducks, Ron Artest of the Sichuan Blue Wales and Emmanuel Mudiay of the Guangdong Southern Tigers. 

These will compliment the CBA's growing domestic talent, which inclueds Yi Jianlian of the Guangdong Southern Tigers, Dingyan Yuhang of the Shangdong Flaming Bulls and Wang Zhelin of the Fujian Sturgeons.

Car manufacturing giant FAW-Volkswagen and JD.com, the leading online retailer in China, have been confirmed as new official partners, increasing the CBA League's sponsorship contingent to 22 in total.

This includes official strategic partner Li-Ning, one of the leading sports brand companies in China, seven official partners, three sponsors and 11 suppliers, adding service orientated commitments.

Sponsorship exposure is led by Infront Sports & Media, one of the leading international sports marketing companies in the world, through LED advertising, player appearances and various onsite promotions.

This year, the CBA League will be broadcast by national sports channel CCTV5, which will be complemented by additional HD coverage on CCTV5+.

A further 18 regional television stations are also airing the games across China, while i-Cable will broadcast in Hong Kong for a second year.

In North America, ONE World Sports will air a minimum of 54 live matches.

"As a result, the impact of the marketing platform is gaining even greater status.

"Sponsors include major brands from not only China but across Asia, Europe and the USA – each committed and standing to benefit from highest TV exposure ever of the CBA League."

The 2014-2015 CBA League regular season runs until February 1, with a total of 380 matches, followed by the playoffs from February 6 to 15.

The semi-finals and finals get underway from February 25 and finish on March 24.
