AIBA boss has called for a lifetime ban for Polish Boxing vice President after he stabs a referee during a meeting ©Getty ImagesFebruary 5 - The vice President and treasurer of the Polish Boxing Association, Mustafa Kocinoglu, has been given a provisional lifetime ban after stabbing referee and judge Zbigniew Zagrodnik.

According to Polish media reports, Kocinoglu  allegedly attended a meeting of the Polish Boxing Association two days ago under the influence of alcohol and proceeded to stab the Polish referee three times.

Zagrodnik was rushed to hospital where he needed to go through surgery due to the injuries sustained during the attack.

Following the incident, International Boxing Association (AIBA) President Ching-Kuo Wu has decided to use his powers as President to ban Kocinoglu from any involvement in boxing for life.

The ban includes all activities, meetings, programmes and competitions at national, continental and international level.

All AIBA National Member Federation and the global boxing family have also been informed not to contact or associate with Kocinoglu in any of his activities, with Wu demanding for him to be removed from all his current positions at the Polish Boxing Association and for all records of his past involvement to be removed.

"This type of incident should have never taken place in our sport or in any sport," said Wu.

"AIBA National Member Federations have the ultimate responsibility of protecting our boxers, coaches, referees and judges and family from non-qualified and corrupt people in the organisation; this is something which we will never tolerate."

The AIBA also issued a statement to insidetheganes stating: "We are still gathering information and evidence on this incident which will then be sent to the AIBA Disciplinary Commission for its review and decision."

The matter has been referred to the AIBA Disciplinary Committee which will come to a final decision on the issue.
