Terezinha Guilhermina and Alan Oliveira at awards ceremonyJanuary 3 - Alan Oliveira and Terezinha Guilhermina have been voted Brazil's Paralympic Athletes of the Year following their successes at London 2012. 


Oliveira, who was one of the stars of London 2012 when he beat Oscar Pistorius to win the T44 200 metres, was chosen ahead of swimmer Daniel Dias, who won six gold medals, by a public vote and received his award at a glittering ceremony at Marina da Gloria in Rio de Janeiro. 

Oliveria, who was recently suffered minor injuries in a car he crashed while allegedly intoxicated, is already looking forward to Rio 2016.

"I expect a big party in 2016," said the 20-year-old from Marabá. who had both legs amputated at the age of 21 days after an intestinal infection led to septicemia.

"I want to hear Brazilians screaming for its athletes in the stadiums."

The 34-year-old Guilhermina, who is visually impaired, won the T11 100 and 200m at London 2012.

She had won the 200m at Beijing 2008, where she also won a silver in the 100m and bronze in the T12 400m.

Her Paralympic career had started at Athens in 2004 when she won a bronze in the 400m. 

Guilhermina's hopes of completing a hat-trick of gold medals at London 2012 were dashed when her guide Guilherme Soares de Santana collapsed a few metres from the finish line.
