Carlos nuzmanOctober 13 - Rio 2016 President Carlos Nuzman has outlined the huge business opportunities for companies wishing to get involved with the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games by becoming a sponsor.

Nuzman was speaking during the 23rd meeting of the Higher Council for the Construction Industry in São Paulo, which represents 204 organisations from the building construction supply chain.

"The delivery of the Rio 2016 Games is a great opportunity for the growth and strengthening of the whole country's economy, through increased investment and new business development," he said.

"The Games will take place in Rio de Janeiro, but they belong to Brazil."

Rio 2016 currently has five Tier One Partners with Bradesco, Bradesco Seguros, Claro, Embratel and Nissan, while there is one Tier Two supporter in Ernst & Young Terco.

But despite a call for more sponsors, Rio 2016 chief executive Leo Gryner has previously claimed that the Organising Committee is looking to secure a sponsorship target of around £1 billion ($1.5 billion/€1.2 billion) with the minimum amount of deals to increase the benefit for their partners.

"As a nation we are not looking for profit and will reduce the number of sponsors rather than go for more money," he said recently.

"If we manage to get the money we need to stage the Games, we will look to reduce the number of sponsors, to reduce the clutter and make it better for our partners.

"The Brazilian economy is booming so we have many companies coming to bid."

Rio 2016 procurement director Fernando Cotrim was also at the event and spoke about the sustainable supply chain for the Games' main requirements and the steps for the procurement programme, which will feature a dedicated website to be launched within two months.

Details of the new website will be announced by Rio 2016 in the coming weeks.
