Casa-Brasil-Somerset-HouseOctober 8 - Rio 2016 is set to donate all its furniture and equipment used in the workrooms and lounges of the London 2012 Casa Brasil to British charity London Citizens.

During the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, Casa Brasil was located at Somerset House in the heart of London, where it was used to promote Brazil ahead of Rio 2016.

It was visited by around 35,000 people during the Games and after being fully furnished by Rio 2016, the Organising Committee has revealed it will donate around 420 items, including sofas, chairs, tables, computers, laptops, televisions and printers, to London Citizens.

"The donation of furniture and equipment from Casa Brasil reinforces the sustainability drive that permeates all Rio 2016's activities," said Rio 2016 President Carlos Nuzman.

"It also shows our desire to work together with each one of the communities where we have some presence.

"Just as London Citizens was inspired by the 2012 Games and the Olympic and Paralympic values, we want the 2016 Games to have the same impact on the transformation of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and South America."

London Citizens has a strong presence in a number of London boroughs, helping communities organise themselves around their causes.

The City Safe Youth Games project, promoted by the organisation, was one of the initiatives inspired by the Olympic and Paralympic values and ideals selected to receive the London 2012 Inspire mark.

The programme brought together over 50 students from different schools to take part in leadership training and to participate in a range of sports activities.

Among the 2,700 initiatives that received the Inspire mark, London 2012 recommended to Rio 2016 nine that needed support to continue with their activities.

Seven of these institutions presented their goals and achievements, as well as their plans and needs for after the London Games.

The Casa Brasil management team met up with the representatives of these organisations and chose London Citizens as the one whose vision most closely mirrors the values of the Rio 2016.

"London Citizens is honoured to receive donations on behalf of our mosques, churches, schools and community organisations," said London Citizens representative Emmanuel Gotora.

"We are impressed that Rio 2016 has a strong inclusion agenda and hope that we can contribute to Rio's success from our experience of working alongside London 2012.

"We are also very keen to continue the relationship through the twinning of schools who will receive some of the donations with schools in Rio."

The delivery of the furniture and equipment will take place in stages, according to the charity's schedule of activities.
