jody cundy_26-09-12September 25 - Jody Cundy, Britain's London 2012 Paralympic cycling bronze medallist, is set to launch an ambitious bid to represent England at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The 33-year-old from Wisbech, who won two gold medals at Beijing 2008, is planning to try to emulate fellow Briton Sarah Storey when she became the first Para-cyclist to represent England at a Commonwealth Games, competing at Delhi 2010.

"I have raced in able-bodied competitions before and reaching the Glasgow Commonwealth Games would be such a massive step forward for me that it gives me all the motivation I need," Cundy said.

"I probably have to improve by two-and-a-half seconds over a kilometre to make the squad.

"It's a big challenge because there will be a far stronger level of competition than there was for Delhi.

"It might be unattainable but if I don't try I'll never know.

"I always try to push the boundaries and if I get beaten by a bunch of able-bodied guys it will make me even more hungry to improve in the future.

"I want to completely redefine Para-cycling.

"I want to achieve things that only a handful of other people can do."

Cundy was tipped to win gold in the London 2012 C4/5 men's 1 kilometre time trial, but slipped shortly after starting the race, ostensibly due to the starting gate not working properly and gripping his wheel for too long.

International Cycling Union (UCI) technical delegate Louis Barbeau disagreed, refusing him a restart, which caused Cundy to erupt into a rage, swearing and throwing water bottles.

He later apologised to the crowd, although he made clear that he still disputed the decision.

He went on to win bronze in the C4/5 men's 4km pursuit, racing Diego Gomez of Colombia.

In the first kilometre of the race, he clocked a time of 1min 05.317sec in the heats, which would have won the 1km time trial.

He is the fastest solo Paralympian on a bike of all time, completing the flying 200m in a time of 10.805sec.
